The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka

metamorphosis

Synopsis:

Gregorio wakes up one day feeling a little strange and heavy. Soon he realizes he´s  a giant cockroach. Not knowing what´s going on Gregorio tries to hide from his family, but as they get more worried because of Gregorio´s secrecy he manages to get out of bed and make his way to the door opening it with his mouth. His family is terrified to see a giant insect come out instead of Gregorio but eventually realize this animal in fact is their beloved family member.

But how can they turn him back to normal? what happened to make Gregorio this way and more importantly how will he adapt to this new life style, will he loose his humanity in the process?

My personal Opinion:

I started this book with great expectations, it seemed like an interesting plot, and I couldn't´t wait to find out what turned Gregorio into a giant insect! But I ended up truly disappointed. The story got stuck in a pattern of someone bringing Gregorio food and him listening to his family´s conversations. I did find that the author accomplished the description of Gregorio´s state quite well. He explained in detail the sensitive parts of his new body, the difficulty of certain movements his body didn't´t allow him to do and it fit the characteristics of a cockroach very well.

Aside from that I found this book less than satisfactory and I wouldn't´t recommend it to anyone. If you want to read it out of curiosity then feel free to do it because it isn´t long! and lucky this book is available for FREE download:
